Savage Moon is a tower defense game for the Playstation Network. If you don't know what they are, tower defense games pit you in a world where you must defend your base against enemies. There are many variants of this genre. For example, in the game Gemcraft, you place gems in towers to defeat bugs. In this game you use. . . well towers. You have your basic machinegun towers and anti-air towers along with other towers. For example, amp towers increase the range of attack towers. There are 3 moons each with 4 levels. Ironically, the moons begin with X, Y and Z (Xipe, Ymir and Zeus). For every tower that is destroyed you get points deducted. If you want to get a perfect score, destroying towers is the way to go. I like this game, primarily because I like tower defense games. There are some little issues in the game that can annoy you. If you are going for a perfect health bonus (which means you don't allow your mining operations to get hit and if you do this on every level you get a gold trophy), you may notice at that times your towers may seem a little disinterested. What I mean is that your towers may take a while to respond to enemies and that little split second can be the difference between a perfect health score and a point deduction. The high scores list is also an issue. If you want to see where you rank, there is a button for that. However if you press it, you can't see where you rank and that is a little annoying. Aside from the regular mode, there is vengeance mode. This mode tests how long you can last against waves of enemies (again a trophy can be achieved if you last long enough). There is also something known as Command Skills. What they are are little upgrades to towers. You can increase the amount of credits you earn with killing enemies. increase the amount of damage you deal to enemies and increase the amount of damage you can sustain from enemy attacks. You can choose up to two at a time so choose wisely. The enemies are diverse, ranging from small fast enemies to large slow enemies. When you begin, tutorials help you grasp the game and they are extremely helpful so take advantage of those. Now comes the age old question: should you buy this game? As I said earlier, I bought it because I like this genre. For $9.99, this is a great bargain. The game takes some strategy and time to conquer, but the rewards are worth it. If you are on the fence, play some of the free tower defense games and see if you like them (Kongregate.com has some good ones). If you end up like this genre, get this ASAP. If not, don't bother with this title.
