Super Mario Galaxy review

The first Mario incarnation on the Wii was a game called Super Mario Galaxy. If you are on of those that have played Super Mario Sunshine, this game will look and probably feel familiar. Also the story remains the same: Princess Peach gets captured and Mario must set out on a quest to rescue her. In an attempt to rescue her, Mario gets flung to a distant planet space called the Observatory. He meets a woman (I forget her name) and she is in need of Mario's help. He must light up areas of the observatory by collecting grand stars from the various galaxies. The different galaxies are collected in house type rooms. For example, the bedroom has 4 or 5 galaxies, the kitchen with 3 or 4 and so on. A special note though: as in Super Mario 64, you do not need to collect all stars to complete the entire game. Now to gameplay: The gameplay is actually fun. You move around with the nunchuk and that combined with the A button or B button you can do different Mario moves like the butt stomp or the long jump. There are little stars in every level that you can collect. Every fifty stars give up a 1up. There are also coins but there aren't as much as you would expect. The stars are also used in the Observatory as "food" for other starlike figures. You feed them a certain number and you get a gift, from powerups to new galaxies that were previously unlocked. In terms of unlocked new rooms in the Observatory, you get those from boss battles. These consist of Bowser and the various ways of defeating him. There are special comets in the game as well. Red comets require you to go through a level and beat the boss without getting hit. Shadow comets require you to race Mario's Doppelganger, or clone, and beat him. Purple comets require you to beat the level within a certain time limit. There is a catch to these comets though; they can only be found at certain times throughout the game so catch them whenever you can. Now when I played, I didn't get far into the game (maybe 25% or so) as I never got a chance to beat it. In a way that is a thing. This game has so much substance to it that it will take you hours upon hours upon hours of gameplay. For the completionist out there, this game is by far not a cakewalk in terms of getting 100%. Some things are actually hard to get. Overall though, this game is not hard; it may take a while to get to the Wii controls (it took me forever to get used to it). But if you have a Wii, buy this game. It's easy to get into and fun to play and who doesn't like that? Oh and you chase rabbits. Bring your carrots lol. Have fun and happy star hunting.
