MAG review

MAG is a first person shooter game developed by Zipper Interactive. It is a PS3 only game and one that I was curious about. I'm not a FPS fan but I gave this a shot and I kinda enjoyed it.

Well, let's see. There are three factions: Valor, Raven and S.V.E.R. (the latter stands for something but I'll let you figure that out.). You pick a faction and you stick with it. I know there's a way to switch but I'm not sure how that's done. There is a leveling system which allows you to unlock better weapons etc, as you progress. You are recommended to do training as that shows you the ropes of the game. You can reassign your skill points once you've reached a high enough level.

Gameplay is the same as any FPS with one difference: this is a multiplayer game only. This is a more team-oriented as following orders is heavily emphasized. There is no penalty for disobeying them, but you won't get bonus experience points as a reward. Speaking of points, there are plenty to go around, from killing people to repairing stuff to getting ribbons, to setting roadblocks, there is a plethora of ways to level your character. Good thing because I'm not the best player so I stick to field support.

I like the speed of the game; not too slow or fast. I am also a person who prefers the 1 buttons (L1 and R1) for firing and shooting respectively I do have a couple gripes though. Some more maps would be nice. DLC maybe? Respawn times are a little inconsistent. And here's the killer: if you want to be a leader you practically need a headset microphone. And guess what? The game doesn't come with one. Now I played in matches where the people on the headsets were not talking. Still though, it would be nice to see a bundle with a headset seeing that this game is based around teamwork.

If you are looking for something different to play, try this game out. And whatever you do, DO NOT COMPARE IT TO THAT INFINITY WARD GAME THAT EVERYONE LIKES. I'm tired of those comparisons and they aren't valid for the discussion. Have fun and keep gaming.
