I thought I would do a review of a PSOne game for once. Today I'll do a review of the game Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex strikes back. This was the first game I played by the studio Naughty Dog. They are also the creators of Spyro. Enough of that, on to the game. The game features Crash, a bandicoot who doesn't speak. In this action, platformer game, you break crates to get Wumpa fruit. Wumpa fruit work exactly the same as coins in the Super Mario series: you get 100, you get a 1up. There is also something called Aku-Aku masks. The masks provide extra protection in case you get hit by the enemy. Collect three and be invincible for a short period of time. Crash also has a sister Coco but she isn't playable in this game. Here's the story: Dr. Neo Cortex was defeated in the first Crash Bandicoot game and has vowed to seek revenge. Crash must go through different worlds to try to defeat him by collecting power crystals. Each world has 5 levels and these levels are entered via a portal. At the end (for the most part) are power crystals which are used to progress through the game and count towards game completion percentage. At the end of each world are the boss fights. They usually take 3 hits to defeat and they aren't too hard. Also included in the game are gems. There are two types: solid and colored. Gems are collected either in secret locations or by breaking every crate (including nitros) in the level. Getting 100% game completion percentage is not necessary to complete the game but if you want to see what secrets the game has, then by all means do so. This game is very fun. If you still own a PSOne and are fans of the Crash series, pick this one up. The overall difficulty is not hard and it should provide hours of fun gameplay.
